Biting off more than they can chew - why I think the Society's internet approach is good for us, bad for them...
by cedars ini've been giving some thought to the society's latest decision to reduce the size of the awake, and relaunch jw.org as a revamped site - intended for bringing in yet more converts.
for those who missed it, here is the relevant part of the leaked letter to elders discussing these changes.... the internet is a technology that jehovahs organization is using to good advantage to spread the good news to all corners of the earth.
consider the impact our web sites are having.

I think that the reason for this move by the WTS is to reduce and ultimately eliminate their printing operation. They will make more and more literature available for free download. This will save them the printing and shipping costs. With the great emergence and use of tablet computers in the western world, a witness can put almost all of the material studied/used every week on a tablet. No more carrying books to the meeting. They can web-base the Watchtower Library and ultimately dispense with the production of the CDROM version while they are at it. They can metatag the site to death so it comes up first in Google results, or with all the hits they are getting daily, sell some adspace and make some money (just joking). The contributions to the worldwide work will cover things nicely with diminishing printing and shipping costs. It's all about the money, honey.
I agree that the battle to keep the R&F off the internet has been lost. The WTS has accepted this and wants a strong internet presence now. This also allows the WTS to distribute literature in parts of the world where the work is under ban. No more smuggling. The strong web presence could also be a preperation for "persecution" taking place. No more need for central meetings. You can get the literature that you want from the internet.
In many Congregations, a person can call in to a telephone conferencing center and listen to the Meetings if they so desire. The WTS Website allows access to digital versions (print and audio) of much of the literature. If you are not that concrened with "associating" before/after the Meetings, all a publisher has to do is show-up for FS. They can either drop a check in the Contribution Box while there for service, or mail one in. You are good to go.
Was life just made a little bit simpler?

Why Elders leave the Organization and why their Wives stay.
by stuckinamovement ini have talked to quite a few brothers who have served as elders and servants and left the organization.
in most cases their wives have remained in despite the husbands best efforts to persuade his wife that the organization is wrong.
even though the wife can see problems within they continue to press on in service to the society.

In my discussions with any appointed man, MS or Elder on why they either "stepped down" or left varies on the person. With many it was not only the work and gradual realization that much of what they were taught was incorrect, but being shaken down twice a year by the Circuit Overseer. In addition, dealing with the Body of Elders is tiresome to say the least. Many Elders in these bodies are blatently incompetent and make the work at hand harder than it needs to be. Disputes and disagreements are common place. I agree that the women will hang in there longer than a man will. The socialization factor is certainly central. The second is that women will generally endure problems with their belief system longer than a man will. I know many, many older sisters who are in good standing who all think and will openly articulate the position that "I don't want to grow old in this sytem", are really affraid that Armageddon is actually many years off, and they will have to plan to die "in this system of things", while being taught the exact opposite. Its a problem brewing for the WTS.

Their big problems are:
1. The year 2014 is a few months away. Once this date comes and the world is continuing on with little interruption, I predict many of the "old timers" will fade away. They have waited too long and will be grossly disappointed. Just watch the Watchtower articles that come out before and after the event for damage control. Remember, the excuse of "poor health" is accepted by the WTS and is something that no proof is required. The Elders and the rank and file can't question it. "I am not at the meetings too much, or out in service a lot because I have poor health". Watch. This will be coming more and more from existing members.
2. The world is changing. People in general are more educated, and as a result, more sophisticated. The conversions that were experienced years ago were an anomoly and won't be repeated. There will be less and less conversions made. The membership will dwindle. The population that is being preached to is smarter than it used to be (in the developed world). If a person lives in a mud hut, has limited or non-existant reading abilities, has to chase a chicken through a mud puddle to catch dinner and carry a water jug 5 miles to have some water for the day, this may not be the case.
3. Look at baptisms that take place. At a Circuit Assembly or District Conventions (in the developed world) there are less and less people being baptized. The baptismal candidates are mainly the children of believers and the decreasing amount of converts. The converts are generally people that have social problems (personality disorders, mental or physical issues that impact human interaction) are socially disenfranchised for some reason or another. Serious, normal people don't come into the religion any more in my experience.
4. The amount of Memorial partakers remains high. It lingered at 8,000+/- for a decade or so and now the number is higher. The whole doctrine of 144,000 is suspect by the evidence and the spin of "replacements" is intellectually insulting.
I think that the above issues will result in diminished membership over time, and in the developed world the religion will really shrink unless there are major changes in modernizing and rationalizing the belief system, doctrine and treatment of the members.

What is the protocol when the memorial falls on the same night as the TMS/BS meeting
by insearchoftruth inwill the tms/bs get rescheduled?
?.

Conan The Barbarian
This happens once every seven years for the Sunday Meeting and once every seven years for the weekly meeting, so there is a history. The Memorial trumps all other Meetings. It will be held on the evening of Nisan 14 (in Jerusalem) no matter what else happens. There can be no deviation. If a conflict with another meeting occurs in a given year, the Branch sends instructions to the Body of Elders and tells them how to handle. The quantity of Congregations that use the Hall on a regular basis impacts the protocol. This year, if a Congregation has a Thursday night meeting, it is to be rescheduled to another evening and the Memorial is observed on Thursday evening.

All of our relatives will have nothing to do with us because of religion. This is no big loss by the way.

Photo ID Badges for Quick Builds
by metaspy inhey guys, sorry i haven't been on here much lately.. i just thought i would drop by and let you know of something i received.. from when i was 12 until i was 25, i worked on quick builds.. i started out just helping out wherever they would put me - then joined an actual crew: attendants.
i used to flag for forklifts.
then i asked if i could learn how to be an electrician because the flagging was about as boring as watching grass grow.. i only worked on electric crew 1 year, back in 2006.. i just got an email from my attendant crew overseer saying that i need to submit a photo for my id badge so that i can go to quickbuilds.

It is a control issue. In addition, the many that have nothing to do after FS who show up and it becomes a social event. The 400 pounders show-up for a free meal and there is an infestation of single females between the ages of 18-100 that show-up and help in some capacity as the camouflage for manhunting. Stay Clear!

The Elders will make an evaluation of you per the recent March 2012 letter. This will consist of two of them talking to you and asking in a conversational way, what is your motivation for wanting to go to College. Your reply will be critical. If they determine that you are going to college not to pursue sacred service, but for personal enrichment and/or the pursuit of riches, you will most likely be removed as a Pioneer. The marking talk will be given during one service mneeting as mentioned by others here in the forum. The purpose of the marking talk is two-fold. One is to indicate that you have made a poor personal choice, which is the predecessor to removal; and second, The old women in the congregation will be happy. This keeps them from bad-mouthing the body of elders the next time the circuit overseer comes around. The body does not want to explain to the CO during the Friday night interrogation during his visit, why they didn't act when it became common knowlege that a Pioneer was going to go to College. Its call self preservation. Take care an keep us posted!

Higher Education Defined
by lastchance inin a new letter to all b.o.e., higher education has been defined as any education that leads to a bachelor's degree, or to postgraduate studies for careers in medicine, law, engineering and so forth.
the letter is to be used to determine if an elder, ministerial servant or pioneer still qualify if they or someone in there family, that they care for, is pursuing higher education.. so getting your associates must be fine then?.

They have historically been against higher education. Going back to the 1960's if you graduated high school and went on to college they wouldn't allow you to "handle the utensils". You were viewed as "inmature", "not spiritual" and potentially a "bad associate", "worldly" and the name calling goes on. However, if you do graduate and have an education in a profession such as Architecture, Engineering, Law, etc; now they want you to volunteer your services to them for free. Sound good to you? They will whip you for going to school to learn something to advance your life as a human, but after you do, they want the benefits of that education for free!
